Tenants Harbor, ME — A recipe called Prosciutto and Tarragon Mussels placed first in the national recipe contest sponsored by the country's largest mussel producer, Great Eastern Mussel Farms. After casting a wide net for entries with news articles and ads all over the United States, and with an invitation to enter the contest printed on half a million retail bags of mussels that the company shipped out this summer, the search ended with an entry from nearby Bangor, Maine. The winner, Rosemary Connors, will receive a Windjammer cruise on a Maine schooner (valued at $2,200) as first prize.

In addition to "Prosciutto and Tarragon Mussels," the final cook-off treated company employees to the four other finalist recipes: Lettuce Wrapped Hoisin-Glazed Mussels, Margarita Mussels, Pan Roasted Mussels With Red Curry, White Wine and Smoked Bacon and Roasted Garlic Mussels in Andouille Lager Broth. These recipes, as well as 70 others appear on the company web site www.eatmussels.com.
